Flashback
Tells the reader about the history of a person or event
"I know how you clutched my back behind your house, and sweated like a stallion when i came near" this shows that Abigail and Proctor have a history
Foreshadowing
Give the reader a hint of what is coming. " I saw Tituba waving her arms over a fire when i came to you" this shows that something big is hinted later on
Personification
Giving an inhuman object human characteristics. " its death, y'know it's death drivin' into them, forked and hoofed" Death was given human characteristics to emphasize the meaning
Metaphor
Compares two things without like or as. " I have trouble enough without I come five mile to hear him preach hellfire and bloody damnation" Proctor compares Parris's preachings to unholy things
Allegory
Something that provides a hidden meaning. " Crazy children are jangling the keys of a kingdom" shows that Abigail's group is messing with something that could wreak havoc on many lives and souls
Symbolism
Symbol or object that brings a feeling to a person or represents more than it seems "I will fall like an ocean on that court, fear nothing Elizabeth" symbolizes that Proctor will show the court his wrath and do whatever he can to get Elizabeth back.
Hyperbole
An over exaggeration "I should hand ten thousand that dared to rise against the law" Danforth says this to show that he will do whatever it takes to punish those who dare go against the law, no matter how many do it.
Simile
Comparing two things with like or as. "the devil is out and preying on children like a beast upon the flesh of pure lamb" compares the devil with a beast to emphasize the point that he is showing no mercy against the innocent.
Dramatic Irony
when the audience knows something the characters do not. "I have seen marvels in this court; I have seen them stuck by pins and slashed by daggers" Danforth doesn't realize that these marvels were faked, but the audience does.
Allusion
refers to an object or circumstance that has occurred or existed. "Abigail brings the other girls into the court, and where she walks the crowd will part like the sea for Israel" refers to Moses parting the Red Sea in the Bible.

Blooms Bucks, Proctor
- Propose a plan to solve Proctor's Situation .
- How would I improve Proctor's character towards others ?
- Can you invent a way for proctor to escape his death?
- How would you adapt Proctor to create a different ending?
- Discuss your plan to modify and design Proctors actions to make him easier to believe.
- Can you elaborate on the reasons of why proctor died?
Proctor died in the end so that everyone who had died before him due to the scandal would not weigh down his soul, he also believed in the end that if everyone else believed strongly enough about this event that they would sacrifice themselves he should too.
- Formulate an original way to compose Proctors after death (impact).
Red Scare Poster
Red Scare #2
The Red Scare during the 1950's was actually the second of two, the first one occurred in 1919-1921 due to the Bolshevik Russian Revolution of 1917. The second began in 1947-1954 following the end of WWII this was caused by McCarthy (shown above) who increased the fear of a Russian espionage
The Red Scare got completely out of hand due to the fears of the people. When people were accused they were asked to give the names of others who were affiliated with communism to clear their names, those that did received a reduced punishment. So may people were falsely accused much like in the play the Crucible, which Arthur wrote to show the country what was going on through a likeness so that he could not be punished for making a communist play.

Day 5
Day 5
Proctor
This shall be my last journal entry it seems, unless I confess to those dogs of a crime I did not commit. Ever since we went into that court everything went wrong. Not only did the opposite of Giles getting the judge to see sense he himself got accused of being a wizard and is going to be tried later all because of me..... and then Abigail and her wenches scared the life out of Mary to where she begged for Abigail's forgiveness and turned on me saying that I made her do it and that I was the Devil's Man and made her say unrighteous things from an unholy book and that i would take her down with me should we fail to rescue my wife.
Tomorrow I will hang unless I confess that I was a servant of the Devil and rebuke my sins, but I am innocent of these accusations just like all of the others that were accused and all of those who lost their lives because of these stupid stupid children. "Crazy children that are jangling the keys of the kingdom" who know no the suffering they will cause, only the power they feel and the false sense of victory. I heard that Abigail left the town and stole all of the money that Parris had saved. The fool, at least i get a small sense of victory from that, but I know that the real culprit in these crimes has escaped, but I know that soon she will be punished for her endeavors and her wickedness and I will be there to watch.
Giles is dead so I've heard apparently they couldn't get the old coot to confess, the last thing he told them as they tried to make him talk by putting boulders on him to crush the truth from his bones was "more weight!", I guess the old man won his victory after all, though he is gone his sons and family still have the farm and need not worry about it being taken away.
It seems my time has come nigh, I hear footsteps approaching my cell and I know they must be coming for me, oh God whatever I decide please forgive me and take care of my family and those who have done no wrong. May this be my last wish.

Day 4
Day 4
Proctor
They have taken her. My wife, the forgiver the one who stayed by my side through the thick and the thin and helped me live on when I did her wrong. I will not forgive them the madness they have done the atrocities they have committed. Oh my shame, this is all of my fault too, and I bet I can place the witch who put in her name as well. That wretched girl Abigail who even now, continues to torment me for my wrong doings.
I will do whatever I can to save you my wife, and the others who were accused as well because some lowlife coward could not be truthful and gave out false accusations so that they could escape with their life while others rotted away in holes and rarely see the light of day. I promise that i will do my best to free all of you even if it kills me.
Giles is going to help too, apparently they took his wife as well because she was reading. READING!!! the madness is insane the town is falling apart and is taking all of us along with it right into the gates of Hell that are just waiting to grab us and trap us withing its steely jaws. Giles and others are on their way to the courthouse now, hopefully that old lawyer can talk that foolhardy judge into believing what is actually happening instead of this craziness that is being acted upon. I should hurry and join them as well and Mary is coming as well apparently she too is tired of the suffering of others to benefit Abigail. I hope to return soon with my wife and leave this all behind us. I no longer feel safe here anymore for here the Devil is waiting in the shadows waiting, watching for the unwary to travel right within his reach and be caught forever. May fortune be with us.

Day 3
Day 3
Proctor
Today I have learnt that almost forty women are going to be tried in the court by a judge over the stupidity of one child. What does she hope to accomplish by this? does she think that I would leave my wife who loves and cares for me so after all of the wrong I have done to her to stand by her wretched side? NEVER!
Oh Abigail you foolish child, have you no soul, no morality? surely you of all people should realize that God will punish you for your crimes. Now you are sending many people to their deaths just because you want one man, one man who wants absolutely nothing to do with you anymore. So many women and children and husbands are now suffering with all of their soul because you are a bitter and cruel woman who will not let anything out of her grasp no matter what is happening.
How much more suffering must happen before you realize your great mistake and the error of your way? How long will it take before you realize that you have set yourself up for eternal damnation? Along with me..... for I am also to blame for one does not do the tango alone....... child you must stop this madness soon before this wretchedness becomes irreversible and families are forever torn apart. I hope you will understand soon what you have done. For the sake of the entire town or i fear that all will be lost and that wickedness will rule the days. I must go I hear somebody knocking at my door. Til tomorrow

Day 2
Day 2,
Proctor
Abigail is after me. I should have known that demon would be back with her claws and fangs unhitched ready to drag me down with her. I may have had issues in the past but i will not succumb to her again. I am a married man and that is how it is, but i fear that she will not be stopped knowing her she will try to put up a grand scheme and she is still bitter from when Goody threw her out when she caught her and I.
I wonder what she will try this time, no matter what she does i will not stop loving my wife, that child is a wench and is spoiled and must be taught that she will not get every single thing she wishes. I will never ever let her take hold of my heart again. I must go back to my wife now, I am glad she has forgiven me after all of my faults and errors she still finds a way to forgive me and love me each day. I just hope that nobody takes advantage of this issue with Parris and his family it could prove disastrous if somebody found a way to manipulate the citizens of this town into believing something horrible is going on and if that happens...... I shudder to think of the pain and torture it would cause. I must think it over, and I will rewrite my thoughts on the morrow.
Day 1
Day 1,
Journal of Proctor
Today My wife and I went to the house of Reverend Parris. According to the town gossip his daughter was bemused by witchcraft, along with several other girls. Oh how quickly the high fairing preacher falls, you say that you speak the word of God yet YOUR family goes and plays with witchcraft in which we all know is a terrible sin to make.
Now you sit by your daughter hoping that this is all a dream some false sense of hope that keeps you clinging, hoping that you can escape unpunished, but there will be a retribution. The entire town will soon hear of what sin your daughter has committed. Finally there will be a retribution.
Since you have joined us Parris you have not preached anything of god, all you talk of is damnation, I cannot stand to go to church anymore, especially with all of your nonsense. I wonder what kind of scheme will you try now to cling to your false sense of innocence, if only you could have been truthful and acted righteous, but now God has seen your finally being punished for your sins, and will be tried.

Bio Poem
Proctor
stubborn, rash, easily angered, prideful
Husband of Goody Proctor
Lover of Goody Proctor, Abigail, and justice
Feels outrage against Abigail, Parris, and unjust treatment
Needs patience, less pride, and a backup plan
Gives his life to help end the false accusations
Fears death, having his name against him, being held responsible for everyone's death
Would like to see the false accusations end, and Abigail pay for her crimes
Resident of Salem
Proctor
Tangible item
Hangman's noose
I chose the hangman's noose as my item because in this play many are hanged for crimes they did not commit, because of one girl who was afraid of punishment and later saw an opportunity to get exactly what she wanted and exploited it. The noose is my symbol for those who lost their lives in the Crucible and never backed down from what was right, even when it costed them their lives.
